Known for his lamps that diffuse soft light through optical glass lenses, the Roman designer Oscar Torlasco (1934 - 2004) established himself in the '50s and '60s designing for several Italian companies specializing in lighting, such as Esperia, Stilux, Stilkronen (now part of the Falb Group).
His most recognisable creations, such as the industrial-style lamps made of brass and lacquered metal with adjustable light beams, are produced by the Milanese company Lumi (with which some of the great names in Made in Italy, from Gio Ponti to Nanda Vigo, have collaborated), while Fabbrica Apparecchi Illuminazione Greco S.p.A. produces the Genova 4053 street lamp for Torlasco, with which he won the Compasso d'Oro in 1959.
Metal, the common denominator of his pieces, is also used by Torlasco for lamps and chandeliers with a much more eclectic taste, generally combined with marble, Murano glass and crystal.
The optical lenses on his lamps became his trademark.
This curious diver lamp with optical glass lenses by Oscar Torlasco is a very rare piece testifying the 1970's Space Age movement.
